Websense Enterprise^® Client Application Manager™ extends acceptable use policies to the desktop through application filtering based on over 50 software categories including instant messaging, peer-to-peer (P2P), spyware, hacking and gaming applications. Client Application Manager complements traditional security infrastructures to include desktop protection both inside and outside corporate security perimeters.

Client Application Manager extends the industry-leading filtering capabilities of Websense Enterprise to corporate desktops, enabling organizations to enforce more robust desktop application management strategies and mitigate the risks of today's computing environments.

The growing use of peer-to-peer (P2P) applications, public instant messaging (IM) tools and high-bandwidth applications such as streaming media is changing the corporate network environment and presents new challenges to security, legal liability and productivity. Additionally, employees may expose corporate desktops to spyware, mobile malicious code and employee hacking tools all too easily.

Leveraging our global leadership in classifying and maintaining the most comprehensive database of Internet Web sites, Websense has created an application database that categorizes PC applications and allows unique policy-driven security and optimized productivity at the corporate desktop.

Websense classified executables from thousands of applications into 50 categories (including P2P, IM, spyware, employee hacking, malicious software and games) for use in establishing and applying management and control policies. The database offers the most complete list of categorized applications available and is updated regularly with unclassified applications via weekly searches of the entire URL domain space for malicious executables, and mining of software and download sites for new applications. In addition, our AppCatcher™ technology anonymously uploads all uncategorized applications from customer inventories, which are then added to the database. Automated updates are downloaded daily to Websense customers.

Outbreak mode - Enhance your security infrastructure when you need it the most, during a virus outbreak, before patch and anti-virus updates take effect. Instantly block the launch of viruses, worms or Trojan horses from executing on CAM-protected PCs.

AppCatcher™ - At the customer's discretion, Client Application Manager can anonymously upload all uncategorized applications from Websense customer inventories for rapid classification of unknown programs and distribution to all Client Application Manager customers.

Application Database - Using our comprehensive approach and methodology for classifying URLs, thousands of applications and scripts have been classified into approximately 50 categories that may be used to enforce appropriate corporate policies.

Customizable application usage policies - Specify application use permissions based on application category, user, group, workstation or IP.

Lockdown mode - Create lists of allowable, authorized applications and apply them to specific desktop or laptop systems, restricting the use of applications outside of selected categories. Lockdown provides maximum control over desktop environments, eliminates most virus and malicious software, and significantly reduces help desk calls.

Easy-to-deploy and completely interoperable

Client Application Manager makes it easy to begin managing corporate PCs and setting appropriate application policies for existing users.

Automated desktop agent deployment - Deploy and uninstall Client Application Manager desktop agents onto corporate desktops individually or en masse with the click of a button in Websense Manager - no requirement for IT "touching" the desktop.

User-directory integration - Customize policies based on existing user and group definitions in your network. Client Application Manager interoperates with the existing infrastructure and can integrate with popular user-directory services.

Client Application Manager Reporter - Automatically schedule and distribute customizable, Web-based reports on rich historical application usage information such as usage by category.

Explorer - This forensics and analytics reporting tool for Client Application Manager empowers corporate managers to detect software misuse and potential threats with a click-through, dynamic, Web-based reporting interface.
